Call for proposals: debut novelists

Please read this page carefully before submitting.

The Orcas Island Lit Fest (OILF) is looking for debut novelists to participate in a panel discussion at our fourth annual festival in the beautiful San Juan Islands.

About the festival

OILF is a celebration of contemporary literary culture for book lovers and the general public. Our goal is to nurture an interest in literature in a wide and diverse audience.

This year’s festival will take place June 2-3 at Orcas Center for Performing Arts.

Program information

  • Our proposals committee is looking for authors who’ve recently published debut works of fiction that will appeal to book lovers who aren’t necessarily writers.

  • Please do not send us proposals meant for an academic setting or workshops that focus on teaching the craft of writing.

  • In general, the committee gives preference to artists who have published work within 12 months of the festival date.

  • Panel discussions are held at Orcas Center and last about 55 minutes. They generally include four authors plus a moderator, with a book signing afterward.

  • OILF aims to produce panels that represent an inclusive range of voices. The ideal panel includes participants of varied backgrounds, ages, and pursuits.

  • Orcas Island Lit Fest reserves the right to accept or refuse proposals by any person or organization at its sole and absolute discretion.

Festival presenters will be provided with two nights of lodging on Orcas Island and reimbursement for the cost of ferry transportation to and from the island.

The deadline for applications is 11:59 pm on Sunday, February 5.
